Sylvia Cecelia Parker was born in Indian Head, Maryland on June 2, 1936 to Bessie Cecelia Proctor Harvey and John M. Harvey. She departed this life on October 13, 2019. She grew up in a large family with six siblings and attended public schools in Charles County where she graduated from Pomonkey High School, Pomonkey, MD. After graduation she remained at home helping her mother keep house and her father at his filling station which was located next door. In 1965 she became an army wife when she married Lt. Glynn Parker. This gave her the opportunity to not only travel, but to live in many distant places. When they were making their home in Alaska, they were blessed with a second daughter, Bridgette, who joined her sister, Diane. Sylvia loved being a homemaker and supporting her husband for 54 years. She also enjoyed reading, caring for her cats which she loved so much, and shopping. Most of all, she especially enjoyed her grandsons and making her daughters happy. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Glynn E. Parker, USA Retired; her daughters Diane Parker of Oxon Hill, MD and Bridgette Parker-Bell of Upper Marlboro, MD; three grandsons-Dion Bell, Michael K. Bell and Demetri Bell all of Upper Marlboro, MD.; two brothers, Paul P. Harvey and James M. Harvey and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Agatha Iola Harvey; Rose Marie Coffee, John S. Harvey, and Geraldine A. Taylor. For those who wish to make contributions in memory of Sylvia may send them to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 145550, Cincinnati, OH 45250-5550.
