Thelma C. Prestwood

Thelma Collins Prestwood, 91, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland passed peacefully into heaven on November 21, 2015. Born in Buffalo, Alabama, she was the daughter of Lula Mae and Will Watt Collins. Both of Thelma's parents had passed away before she reached the age of seven, and she was raised by her grandmother, Corine Ross in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After completing high school, Thelma moved to the Washington, DC area in the 1940's. There she met Oscar Prestwood, Sr., who had been honorably discharged from the service after suffering an injury during World War II. They were wed on June 14,1947, and had celebrated 57 years of marriage when her beloved Oscar passed away in September, 2004. Two sons, Alan and Oscar Jr. were born from their union. Thelma was employed by the Federal Power Commission for most of her career. She retired as a Public Utilities Specialist from the U.S. Department of Energy in 1984.
