Theresa Amelia O'Connell

Theresa Amelia O’Connell (nee Interdonato), 81, of Camp Springs, MD passed away on November 29, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents Paul & Amelia (Mirabile) Interdonato and husband Edmond B. O’Connell.

She is survived by her sons Denis (Shannon) and Paul; grandchildren Edmond & Sophia; brothers Andrew (Beverly) & Anthony (Katie); sister Rita Interdonato and a large extended family. From early childhood and throughout her life, Theresa always had cats, and also leaves behind her cherished Columbo and Gatino.

Theresa graduated from St. Francis Xavier Grade School & Notre Dame Academy. After graduating Georgetown University in 1962, she worked as a CIA intelligence analyst. 

She loved her family and was a devoted wife and mother. She married her husband Ed in 1968 and stopped working in 1970 to focus the next 20 years of her life raising her two sons, Denis & Paul. She loved her sons and encouraged them in all their person, educational and professional endeavors.

Her second career as a Usability Engineer began after receiving her master’s degree from University of Maryland in 1992. She was able to combine her passion for linguistics and love of technology and landed her dream job after graduating from UMD. She worked for almost 20 years before retiring.

She and her husband Ed loved to travel both domestically and internationally. Above all, Theresa loved to spend time with family and friends. She also took solace in her Catholic faith which guided her in every aspect of her life.

Theresa officially became the family archivist in 2016. She collected, scanned and digitally restored old photos. She took joy in reaching out to family and friends to learn as much about a photo as possible (names of people, date, location and story). Her passion for this family history project strengthened family relationships, generated a library of over 2000 photos and left a wonderful legacy for all of us to share.

Visitors may pay their respects on Tuesday, December 10th at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, MD, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Camp Springs, MD on Wednesday, December 11th at 11am. A private family ceremony will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, DC.
