Thomas Van Clagett III, 71, died at his vacation home at Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, early Tuesday, April 6, 2010.\n \nHe was the eldest son of Felicita Buchheister Powers and the late Thomas Van Clagett Jr. of Upper Marlboro. He graduated from Frederick Sasser High School in Upper Marlboro, and the University of Virginia with a degree in business administration.Clagett spent more than 30 years in banking in Upper Marlboro before becoming a consultant for the Small Business Administration until retirement, and moved to Aquasco, Maryland.He was a former commissioner for the Town of Upper Marlboro and served as mayor. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church where he served as a lay speaker and lay leader.\n \n= 1233381600) && (nAdsysTime \n \nMr. Clagett was an avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist. \n \n\nHe was a great fan of the Washington Capitals hockey team, and the Washington Redskins. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.He was a member of the Prince Georges County Fire Department’s water rescue team, and a volunteer with the Baden Fire Department.\n\n \n \n \nFamily invites friends to call at the Lee Funeral Home Calvert, PA 8125 Southern Maryland Blvd. (Route 4 and Fowler Road) Owings, MD on Sunday, April 11, 2010, 3 – 6 pm. \n \n \n \nA Christian Service will be celebrated on Monday, April 12th at 10:00 am at Mt. Oak United Methodist Church, 14110 Mount Oak Road, Mitchellville, MD, 20721. Interment will be private.\n \nSurvivors include his wife, the former Sarah Helen High of Whiteville; a son, Thomas V. “Tucker” Clagett IV and his wife Tracy of White Plains, Md.; daughters, Marnie C. Robison and her husband, Keith of White Salmon, Wash., and Helen Dasher C. Millman and husband, Aaron, of Upper Marlboro; his mother; three brothers, Robert Clagett of Croom, Md., Stephen Clagett of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Patrick Clagett of Dallas, Texas; and six grandchildren, Maria and Thomas Clagett, Nora and Mae Robison, and Callie and Clara Millman. Other survivors include brothers-in-law, Bob High of Whiteville, Bill High of Fayetteville, and Walter High of Rockingham.Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 16101 Swanson Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774.
