On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, Thomas "Gordon" Harley passed away peacefully in his home in Clinton, MD. Gordon was a devoted family man and hardworking member of the community.
He was born on May 9, 1923, in Pomfret, MD to the late Joseph “Oscar” and Mary Harley. Gordon attended school in Charles County, MD and later went on to become a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Clinton for 64 years. Gordon spent many years working for Buffalo Sand & Gravel before retiring. He was known for his tireless work ethic, which he applied to all aspects of his life. He was especially passionate about farming, having purchased 11 acres of land that he tirelessly cleared and cultivated. Gordon took pride in growing his own vegetables and raising farm animals. When he wasn't tending to his farm, Gordon enjoyed sitting outside in his gazebo with a few beers, surveying his property. He also loved going to seafood restaurants with his wife after church. Above all, he cherished his family and spent as much time with them as possible. In his final moments, he took one last look out of the window at his beloved property, as if bidding it farewell. Gordon married his beloved "Honey-babe" Mary "Blandie" Harley on June 8, 1946. Together they had eight children: Thomas "Monroe" Harley, Terence Anthony Harley, Sr. (Veronica), Mary "DorothyFaye" Proctor (Thomas), John “Woodrow” Harley, Sr. (Patricia), Cecelia "Ardis" Proctor (George, Sr.), James "Ernie" Harley, Paul "Harris" Harley, Sr. (Cecelia), and Elizabeth "Charlene" Falgoust (Rudolph).
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Mary “Blandie,” son John "Woodrow" Harley, Sr., grandson Jason A. Harley, daughter-in-law Pamela Harley and siblings Joseph Alton, James Muriel, James Melvin, James Garland, Paul Ravenell, John Rudell, Francis Durell, Anthony Devon, Charles Berylan, and Monica Estelle. He is also survived by his brothers William Curvey and George Purnell, 7 children, 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
