Col. Thomas E. Johnson Thomas Edward Johnson, Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.), died Sunday July 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family in Fort Washington, MD. Born in Richmond, VA, Thomas was a son of the late Louis and Cerelia Johnson. Over the course of his 72 years, he served 27 years in the United States Army. A few of his awards, degrees, and affiliations include the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal for five combat campaigns. In 1962 he graduated from Hampton Institute(University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics. In 1974 Thomas earned a Master's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Farleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, New Jersey. He was a re-activating co- founder of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity at Hampton Institute. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Canta S. Johnson, their four children, Sherrita L. Powell (Barry), R. Nichelle Johnson, Tasha E. Dorsey (Kevin), and Thomas E. Johnson, Jr. (Sherod), 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Shelby, Thomas III, Michael, Donovan, Myles, and Morgan, his brother, Louis E. Johnson (Rhonda), and a host of family and friends.
