Valora Mae Surfus

January 22, 1920 — February 6, 2014

Valora Surfus was born in 1920 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Benjamin and M. Morton. She was one of 9 children. Valora was a “Rosie the Riveter,” manufacturing engine parts, a responsibility she took very seriously. She was selected to play for the All American Woman’s Baseball Team, “Peaches” but declined the position. Valora was the backbone of her family. She was the caretaker and always quick to offer a hug. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren were her world, she would do anything to make sure they were well taken care of and happy. Valora was a religious woman, raised Baptist until converting to Catholicism. She enjoyed her time volunteering with the March of Dimes and taking long drives, some of her most memorable included; Skyline Drive, road trips to Michigan and through the New England states, and at the age of 93, she traveled to Florida for a wedding, she lovingly referred to that trip as her “fantasy trip.” Valora was a great seamstress, she was able to design her own patterns and even made a granddaughters wedding dress! Valora is survived by her children; Sandy (Jack) Keglovitz, Mickey Bolger and Pat (Helen) Surfus a sister, Geri Sponaas, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; Benjamin and M. Morton, siblings; Bea Charron, Donna Habitler, Kenneth Morton, Thelma Ryan, Morty Morton, Bill Morton and Dolores Morton; children; Larry Joslin and Dawn Schroeder and son in law Ronnie Bolger To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Valora Mae Surfus please visit our Sympathy Store.
