Vincent DePaul Fong, Sr.

April 6, 1952 — April 27, 2012

VINCENT DEPAUL FONG, SR.\n \n \n \n Once again, in love and infinite wisdom, God has sent His angel into our midst, this time releasing from suffering and calling into that new and larger life the gentle spirit of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and Uncle Vincent DePaul Fong, Sr.\n \n Vincent was born in Washington, DC on April 6, 1952, to the late Gertrude Robinson-Fong and the late Lee Shu Fong. He was the youngest of three children. In his early years, Vincent attended St. Augustine Catholic School in Washington, DC, and later attended a military school in New Jersey. He eventually returned to Washington, DC, and in 1968, he married Patricia Howard and had two children Olishia Johnson and Vincent DePaul Fong, Jr.\n \n In 1969 Vincent enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War earning a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam SVC Medal, Combat Infantrymen Badge, Sharpshooter Badge M-16, Expert Badge Rifle M-14 and Parachute Badge. In 1976, he graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute specializing in automotive technology. \n \n In 1979, Vincent started his career at Howard University as a member of the University’s Campus Police. In November 1991, he began his final career as an Electronics Technician for the District of Columbia Fire and Radio Shop, which became a part of the Office of Unified Communications. He was an active member in the employees’ union local as a steward representative. Vincent was instrumental in helping to form and organize Local R3-07 under the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE). In 2007, his fellow employees elected him the first President of Local R3-07. He greatly enjoyed the challenges of carrying out his duties as President of Local R3-07, and he served in that capacity until his health no longer allowed him to continue his active participation.\n \n Vincent had a love for the martial arts and taught his entire family. At one point, he also taught self-defense classes at Howard University. He loved cooking and many reminded him \n \nthat he was the best cook in his house! He also loved to watch and talk about his Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts. He had a great love for exercising and showing others how to get in shape. \n \n In 1981, Vincent met Gennice Brickhouse at Howard University and their courtship began! Finally, twelve years after meeting they married on April 10, 1993. From that union they had three charming boys: Emanuel DePaul, Shelton Lee and Adam Jamal. Together the family resided in Clinton, Maryland and eventually became members of Union Bethel AME Church in Brandywine, Maryland.\n \n Vincent leaves to treasure his memories: wife, Gennice Brickhouse Fong; children, Olishia Johnson, Vincent DePaul Fong, Jr., Christopher Borden, Justin Borden, Emanuel Fong, Shelton Fong and Adam Fong; six grandchildren, Vincent III, Tierra, Sean, Tyree, Dyamond and Justin Jr.; two devoted sisters-in-law, Elezinia Griffin of Chesapeake, VA and Ann Riddick of Bear, DE; two devoted brothers-in-law, Shelton Riddick (Shirley) of Chesapeake, VA and James Riddick of Bear, DE; seven sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; two nieces; four nephews and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, co-workers and friends and a special friend Lorenzo Harris of Willmar, MN.\n \n To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Vincent DePaul Fong, Sr. please visit our Sympathy Store.
