Vinton Norman Thompson

Vinton Thompson was born to the late James and Constantia Thompson on June 21, 1950 in the small town of Port Antonio on the beautiful island of Jamaica. Vinton was the eighth of 12 children. He attended Boundbrook Infant School, Park Elementary School, Port Antonio Senior School and Portland High School, where he developed his mathematical skills. Following graduation, Vinton worked with the Jamaica Banana Board as a payroll clerk.As a teenager growing up in Jamaica, Vinton actively played cricket and soccer. Throughout his life, he had a passion for other sports, such as, track and field, and football.In 1962 Vinton and Lorna met in Port Antonio. Four years later, Lorna migrated to the United Kingdom (UK) and visited Jamaica eight years later when Vinton fell in love with her all over again. This second encounter culminated in their marriage in Sheffield, UK on August 31, 1975. While living in the UK, he worked as an accountant for Carlyle English Steel, the UK’s largest steel industry.After six years of residency in the UK, Vinton and his wife visited his parents in Brooklyn, New York. Upon returning to the UK, they decided to immigrate to the USA to be closer to his parents. They later moved to Silver Spring, MD.Vinton’s career in the USA began as a security guard at the World Bank. He started a new profession at Orkin Pest Control where he was recognized for his outstanding professionalism. In 1988 the President’s Honor Council in the Northeast Region awarded him for being the “#2 termite technician” for the entire Maryland district. He also earned the certificate of recognition for outstanding services and accomplishments for April 1994. After 15 years of experience as an exterminator, he started his own business in 2003. He founded and owned Bubbles Pest Control until his death.This gentle giant was the very essence of compassion, of duty, a symbol of self-less humanity. He was kind, funny, jovial, and peaceable with a great sense of humor. A devoted husband and family man who enjoyed travelling extensively with his wife.Vinton is preceded in death by his parents James and Constantia Thompson; Brothers James, Dave, Vernon and Sister Tresa Hatchette. He is survived by his wife Lorna (affectionately known as Bubbles); sisters Esme, Maple, Grace (Charles) and Carol; brothers Donald (Maureen), Reuben (Lorraine), and Ethan. Sisters-in-law Beatrice, Sheila (James), Jean, Monica, Beverly and Nancy. Special nephew Joseph Ash.
