Virginia Macferran Barnes - Owings, Maryland Virginia Macferran Barnes, 80, of Owings, Maryland, formerly of Reisterstown, Maryland, died on Monday, June 12, 2006 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. She is survived by her children, E.H. Barnes, III, Nancy B. Wambach, Jane Marshall and husband, John, Jodi Franklin and husband, Mike and Katie Devlin and husband, Kevin; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Virginia is predeceased by her husband, E. Howard Barnes, Jr.She was born July 14, 1925 in Topeka, Kansas. Growing up during the Great Depression, Virginia traveled through the mid west with her widowed mother. Making ends meet was a challenge throughout her childhood. In 1942, Virginia moved to Baltimore, Maryland and enrolled at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduating, Virginia became a registered nurse working at several hospitals in the Baltimore area. In 1946, she married E. Howard Barnes, Jr. Her family grew up in Catonsville, Maryland. Virginia retired from Union Memorial Hospital in 1993 moving to Lakeland, Florida with her husband. Virginias hobbies included her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she was always enjoying family gatherings. A devout Catholic, believing strongly in her faith, Virginia was always volunteering in her church. Reading and sewing were also a large part of her life. Some of Virginias best assets were her positive attitude and amazing ability to listen and make one feel better about life. She was never too busy to help.A memorial gathering will be held at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1601 W. Mt. Harmony Road, Owings, MD on Friday, June 16th from 11 am until a memorial Mass at 12 Noon with Father Mike King officiating. Interment will be private.
