VIVIAN B. BOUCHARDOn Sunday, December 11, 2005, Vivian Beatrice Bouchard, 82, died at Asbury-Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons, Maryland. She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Ashby, of Upper Marlboro MD and Renee Bouchard of Huntingtown MD and son, Stephen Bouchard of Loudon TN, grandchildren, Cheryl Fox of Oak Harbor WA, Sean Ashby of Upper Marlboro MD and Elise Bouchard of Huntingtown MD; sisters, Mabel Kirby of Cherryville NC, Virginia Steffey of Castlewood VA, Mildred Harris of Charlotte NC, and Lois Meade of St Paul VA and brothers, Harry of Castlewood VA and Ray Salyer of Newport News VA. Born on March 3, 1923 in Dante Virginia, Vivian attended nursing school at Grace Hospital in North Carolina, and dedicated her professional life to nursing. Her first assignment was at Oak Ridge Tennessee where the atomic bomb was being developed. She served during World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp. During this time, while stationed in Augusta GA, she met Capt. Wilfred (Bill) A. Bouchard, who was recovering from imprisonment in a German POW camp. They soon married, and had three children, Catherine, Stephen and Renee. Bill and Vivian settled in the Washington DC area in 1954, briefly living in the District before moving to Hillcrest Heights MD in 1957. The family was members of Holy Family Catholic Church. For 31 years Vivian worked at Malcolm Grow Air Force Medical Center, Andrews Air Force Base, MD. During that time, she studied for and qualified as the first certified OB/GYN nurse practitioner in Maryland. She was a pioneer in that field and paved the way for others.In 1987, after retirement, Bill and Vivian moved to Upper Marlboro MD and became members of St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Vivian was also active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Bill died in 1992. In the late '90's, Vivian moved to the Asbury-Solomons community in Solomons MD. She was very active in numerous committees dealing with health care and rights of the elderly. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and was a volunteer at the Calvert Marine Museum. While at Solomons, Vivian met her second husband, Joseph Brenneis. Vivian and Joe enjoyed the retired life and traveling, until Vivian was diagnosed with leukemia in late 2004. With Joe by her side, she fought the disease bravely for a year, but finally succumbed on December 11, 2005. Family received friends at the Lee Funeral Home Calvert, P.A., 8125 Southern Maryland Blvd. (Route 4 & Fowler Road) Owings, Maryland on Wednesday, December 14th from 2 to 4 pm & 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Jesus the Divine Word Catholic Church, 885 Cox Road, Huntingtown, Maryland on Thursday, December 15th at 10:30 am. Graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, January 27th, 2006 at 1:00 pm.
