Wallace "Wally" Dean Weaver

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, Wallace Dean Weaver, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away. He was born on March 27, 1948 to Lester Smith and Selma Luvenia (Bogle) Weaver in Washington, DC. He graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham, MD, in 1966. Wally was married to his high school sweetheart, Charlene Ann (Wright) Weaver, in September 1967 in Sparta, North Carolina. Wally joined the West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fire Department when he was 16 years old. He served in many capacities while a member of the Fire Department. When he moved to Owings, MD, he continued to be active up at WLH, but also became a member of North Beach Volunteer Fire Department where he stayed active until 2016. He joined the U.S. Army in October 1967 and served 13 months in Vietnam. He left the Army to start his career in the DC Metropolitan Police Force in August 1970. He went to work for Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission in 1974 and finally went out on disability in 1995, and was put on the heart transplant list in 1998. He received his new heart on July 21, 2000. We were awakened by a phone call at 7 a.m. stating that we had 2 hours to get to the hospital to wait for a new heart. The patient that donated his heart was a woman 5 years younger than Wally, and had been in an automobile accident. She was at University of Maryland Medical Center. Her heart was transported to Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m. and the long surgery began shortly after that. Wally’s love was the fire department. As a single guy, he would be up there on weekends and on days that he was off from school. Then when he started dating Charlene they would sometimes spend the time up there too. They would attend the dances at the hall over Company 28 and had a lot of good times with so many of their friends that they have been in touch with over the years. But sadly, so many of these good friends have passed away. But Wally was greeted by his family members, fire department friends and other classmates that passed away before he did. Wally and his family would spend many nights up there and on weekend would share dinners with the other volunteers up there. While he was on some calls, his wife and daughters would schlep sodas and/or soup to the fire fighters (depending on the weather). And once the genealogy bug hit his wife, he would accompany her on their “cemetery hopping” vacations taking pictures of different cemeteries, recording his family history, and visiting relatives along the way. Wally is predeceased by his parents, Smith and Selma Weaver as well as a grandson, Brennan Mims. He leaves behind his wife, Charlene, his two daughters, Stacey (Billy) Mims and Sharon Canter. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Brooke (Danny Jones), Brent, Braedyn, Brandt, Brianna, Bryleigh, Skyler and Brielle; and 3 great grandchildren: Zachary, Solomon and Natalia. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Weaver and his niece, Anna. He also leaves behind many relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 10:00 AM to the start of the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
