Walter Hummer Hancock, Jr.

May 14, 1928 — February 13, 2013

Walter H. Hancock, Jr., 84, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Hancock was born in Boulevard Heights, Maryland to the late Walter H. Hancock, Sr. and Julia Ruth Wood Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Love Tierney Hancock on August 26, 2002; and four sisters. Mr. Hancock was a former resident of Boulevard Heights, Maryland, Port Richey, Florida and of St. Petersburg, FL, before moving to Elizabethton in 1990. He was a computer analyst for the Naval Oceanographic Office of the U.S. Navy and was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM in Washington, DC and was a member and greeter at Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include one stepson, Larry Tierney and Wife Miriam, Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Amy Tierney Wade and husband J.R., Huntsville, AL; Michael Tierney and wife Jenn, Elizabethton; and Heather Tierney Germaine and husband Bud, Indianhead, MD; one brother, Gilbert S. Hancock, Charlestown, West VA; and a special friend, Billie Jean Lowe, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
