Walter Lee Taylor was born April 13, 1940 in Whitakers, North Carolina to the late Anderson Taylor Sr. and Almyra Battle Taylor. He was called to his eternal home at the age of 80 on Thursday, July 30, 2020 surrounded by family, after battling a long illness.He was preceded in death by brothers George, Johnnie, and sister Beulah. He was the third of seven children. Walter graduated in 1961 from Central High School in Gates, NC. Immediately following high school Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an aviation technician. He served for over 20 years, traveled the world, fought in the Vietnam War, and received numerous awards and commendations. Walter retired from the Navy in 1982. He went on to receive a Bachelors of Science degree in Technology Management from the University of Maryland in 1984. Walter enjoyed spending time at home with his family, often sharing stories of his many adventures and experiences. He loved to garden, cook, and sing. He was always full of life. Walter leaves to cherish his memories a loving, dedicated, and faithful wife, Lillie Taylor; three brothers, James (Ola), Gradis (Mignon), Anderson JR.,; two sister-in-laws, Sarah Taylor and Lula (Russel) Payton; four sons, Walter II (Leticia), Marcus (Tonisha), Curtis (Kimberly), Freeman (Deaven); two step-sons, Willie Chestnut (Donna), Anthony Chestnut; 19 grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
