It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Henry Noyes, Jr. on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at his home in Huntingtown, MD; he set sail for calmer seas and sunnier shores. Bill was born on October 10, 1929 in Mystic, CT to William H. Sr. and Alice Noyes. Nearly all of his 89 years were spent in service to the community, his family, and his country. As an ordnanceman in the United States Navy throughout North Africa during the Korean War; as a ship builder in Groton, CT building the first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus; as an electrical engineer in Washington, DC developing infrared chemical detectors where he retired from the United States government after 36 years earning the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal; as public educator, qualified coxswain, former flotilla commander, division officer, and vessel examiner with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Our ship feels adrift today, but we will keep his humor, stories, and light alive through his wife of 38 years, Maxine [Baber] Noyes, children, Wendy and Eric Edstrom, Darrell Noyes, Pamela and Philip Mazza, Glenn and Dawn Noyes, Megan Noyes, and Joselyn Noyes, six grandsons, six granddaughters, seven great-grandsons, and nine great-granddaughters and niece, Victoria Noyes. Family invites friends to Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Monday, July 1 from 10 am until start of Memorial Services at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623 at 1:45 pm. Because of his lifetime dedication to service, we gratefully request donations in lieu of flowers in his name be made to Calvert Hospice, P O Box 838, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 ~ OR ~ Project Echo Inc., 484 Main St. Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
