William Preston Carr

William Preston Carr, 85,\n \n of Washington, DC passed on December 25, 2011 at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, MD. Born in Clarke County, VA, he was a son of the late William and Rachel (Taylor) Carr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was employed for many years as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service. He was married to Bernice Allegra (Dent) Carr. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last January. He leaves behind to cherish his memory along with his wife, two daughters, Karen Ann Carr and Monta Yvette Carr-Cooper, three grandchildren, Preston, Carlton, and Joshua, six great grandchildren, Talaya, Tykail, Elijah, Aaron, Jamella, and Gabrielle, a brother Oscar Reed Jr. and three sisters, Helen Mills, Lillian Ashley (Joseph), and Sarah Scott (Roy), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by a beloved daughter Allegra Jamella Carr-James.\n \nA visitation will be held on Thursday January 5, 2012 at the Reid Temple A.M.E., 11400 Glenn Dale Blvd., Glenn Dale, MD from 11:00AM – 12:00PM followed by a funeral service at 12:00PM with the Rev. Dr. Lee P. Washington and Rev. Cannon Prince A. Decker officiating. Interment will be on Friday January 6, 2012 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 10:00AM.
