We are saddened to announce the passing of William “Don” Dillon, after a short illness on June 5, 2023. Don was born in 1933 in Indian Mills, West Virginia to the late Charles and Lima Dillon. Being the youngest of five, he grew up in the hills of West Virginia and moved to the Washington DC area in the 1960’s. Don worked for NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center until his retirement in 1992 after 32 years of service.
Don married his high school sweetheart Nancy and settled in Laurel, Maryland to raise two sons, Randy and Kenny. Don enjoyed hunting squirrels in his younger days, and upon retirement took enjoyment in feeding and caring for them in the backyard. Don and Nancy retired to the quiet beaches of Delaware, settling in Lewes. Fondly known as Gramps and Amaw, they loved hosting their grandchildren during summer breaks. Don absolutely loved his beagles, Misty and Ginger.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his parents, and siblings. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Randy and Beverly Dillon and stepson Kenny Huffman. Affectionately known as Gramps, he is survived by his granddaughters; Danielle Dillon Roesch (Tom), Brittany Dillon Frazier (Blake), and Hannah Dillon Yancey (Nathan), grandson; Robert Huffman (Dominique), great-grandchildren; Addilyn, Skylar and Elijah.
