MEMORIAL TO WILLIAM ORIS FLOWERS, SR. "BILL"July 20, 1930 to May 15, 2008Bill Flowers, 77, of Owings, Maryland, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, May 15, 2008.Bill was born on July 20, 1930, in Nashville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Bobbie Martin and Thomas Flowers. Bill, his two sisters, Geraldine Sadler and Frances Justice, and late brother, Tom, Jr., all lived in Georgia - brother-in-law to Buddy Sadler and the late Roy Lee Justice.Bill joined the United States Army in 1948, and following his honorable discharge, he worked as a unionized Sheet Metal Worker. In 1967, Bill became employed as a Sheet Metal Mechanic Supervisor with the Architect of the Capitol.His service in the U.S. Army transitioned him to the Washington, D.C. area where he met Linda McDaniel, whom he married in 1959. They had four children who adored him: Billy Flowers, Bonny Flowers, Shari Flowers-Sweeney and Jennifer Sparks - father-in-law to Missy Flowers, the late Tony Collins, Jerry Sweeney and Christopher Sparks. Bill was further blessed with eight beautiful grandchildren: Zachary, Laura, Jake and Luke; Jesse and Raquel; and Lauren and Lexi.Bill was a devoted Brother of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, Huntingtown, Maryland congregation. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, cooking and aviation. Bill was a kind southern gentleman with a generous loving heart. He had a beautiful singing voice, enjoyed whistling with the birds, and playing the harmonica and guitar.A memorial gathering will be held at the LEE FUNERAL HOME CALVERT, P.A., 8125 Southern Maryland Blvd., (Rte 4 & Fowler Rd.) Owings, MD on Thursday, May 22 from 1 pm until a service at 3 pm.Bill will be deeply missed and remain in our hearts forever.
