William Francis Goddard, III 70 Years Huntingtown, Maryland Born August 13, 1951 William Francis Goddard, III of Huntingtown, Maryland peacefully passed away at his home on September 1, 2021. Bill was surrounded by loving family. Bill was born on August 13, 1951 to the late William F. Goddard, Jr. and Margaret H. Gillam. Also, preceded in death by his step-parents Jean Goddard and George Gillam. Bill is survived by his wife Marie Duffield of Huntingtown, daughters, Kellie Goddard-Naughton and husband Chris of Crownsville, Jordyn Goddard of Frederick, Emily Goddard of Hagerstown, Brandi Duffield of La Plata, son, Steven Goddard of Hagerstown and grand-daughter Bailey Duffield of La Plata. He survived by sisters Christine Baker and husband Brud of Tulsa, OK, Becky Knapp (Bill’s twin) and husband Randy of Warm Springs, VA, Karen Jordan and husband Dave of Naples, FL, Mary Hall and husband Dave of Roscommon, MI, Terri McCollum and husband Eddie of Yukon, OK, brother Bobby Goddard and wife Debbie, of Orlando, FL. Bill is preceded in death by his sister Lynne Corbett. Bill is a former Chief Deputy for the Prince George’s County Fire Department. He started his firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter at the Glen Dale Fire Association, where he is a Honorary Life Member. Bill served his country by enlisting in the Navy at age 17, during the Vietnam War. After retiring from Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, he went on to serve the citizens of Maryland as Executive Officer for the Maryland State Fire Marshal; Deputy Secretary of State for Maryland; Director of the Governors Board of Public Works; and Chief of Staff at the Maryland Department of Transportation. Bill left public service going on to work with Ken Michael of NAI Michael Companies in Lanham Maryland as one of the Vice Presidents of Development. He enjoyed his time there, learned a lot and has quoted Mr. Michael many times since. Bill returned to public service in 2009 when he was appointed to serve as Fire Chief and Emergency Manager for Howard County Maryland, by then County Executive Ken Ulman. Bill’s final position of public service was being appointed as the City Administrator for the City of Laurel, by Mayor Craig Moe. One of Bill’s favorite quotes was “If you love what you are doing, you never work a day in your life”. Bill loved spending time with his family, going on weekend adventures with Marie, Happy Hour at Anthony’s Bar and Grill and watching Nascar Races with his “Pal” Steve Allen. William F.
