William R. Latimer

Died March 30, 2013 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center of natural causes with family present. Mr. Latimer was born on September 12, 1921 in Silver Hill, MD and lived there all his life. After High School, he worked for Silver Hill Sand and Gravel.Mr. Latimer was drafted into military service during WWII. While in the service, on July 31, 1943, he married the love of his life Dorothy Hamlin. This union lasted until her passing 41 years later. While in the military, he served in the Army Air Corps Military Transport Division. He served on bases located in Iceland, New Mexico and Washington National Airport, achieving the rank of SSgt. He spoke fondly and often of his military service and was proud to have served his country. At wars end, Mr. Latimer was honorably discharged and went to work for his father in the livestock business, later he started his own trucking business and retired at age 62.Mr. Latimer had many interests and was an avid motorcyclist and stock car and sprint car fan. His ready laugh and helpful nature was consistent throughout his life.He was preceded in death by his father John E. Latimer, mother Hilda E. Latimer and his wife Dorothy R. Latimer.He is survived by his sons Bert and Ray Latimer; brother Jack Latimer; grandsons Jeffrey (Alison) and Anthony Latimer and great granddaughters Bailey, Shelby, Darby, Ava and Mia.Viewing will be held at Lee Funeral Home, Inc. Branch Ave. and Coventry Way on Thursday, April 4 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery Suitland, MD.
